It is important to understand what depression is and what it is not.
Can you think of a time when you briefly felt sad but then you were able to shake it off and continue with your daily routine?
You may have even cried and felt hurt but it eventually went away. This is not depression; this is sadness. Sadness does not impair your ability to function.
Now, have you ever felt deeply unmotivated, excessively tired, and with a pervasive negative outlook on life for at least two weeks? That is depression.
Depression may make you feel unworthy and lifeless and may take away a huge percentage of your energy until you remain in a state of emotional numbness. In addition, you can’t function, you can’t see the bright side of things, and at times, you want to die. If that is how you have been feeling, it is okay to realize that it is time for you to accept professional help. And I welcome you to contact me.
